Science

Parents,
Next week (9/4) we will begin our first science chapter in fourth grade. Many students LOVE science, mainly because they have done a lot of science activities in previous grades. While we will be doing several activities this year, we will primarily be learning how to use our nonfiction textbook to gain understanding. This will be new for most, if not all, students. We will discuss how to read a textbook, look up answers to comprehension questions, use the glossary, take notes, and study for tests. Please encourage your child to bring their Science book home at night so that you can re-read the day's lesson with them or help them study for upcoming tests.
We will usually spend 2-3 weeks in Science then go back to Social Studies for 2-3 weeks. Students will know at least a week in advance when they will be assessed over the chapters of study. I always give bonus points if a student brings back a study guide with a parent signature. Please bear with your student as they begin to learn to use a textbook. This knowledge will benefit them for the rest of their school career. Thanks for your continued support!
